Overview
Penta Technologies was challenged with their legacy application's user-interface, despite having robust functionality built into their application. Clearview Software's Co*Star product line provided PENTA a platform to protect the substantial software development investment made, and provide immediate access to a wide range of current user-interface technologies options. Clearview worked together with one of their partner companies, to provide a highly skilled team to migrate Penta Technologies legacy financial, accounting, and project management software systems for project-oriented construction firms. The 940+ screens involved in this enterprise application integration project were running as a terminal emulation (VT220) application against a 4th GL hosted on numerous versions of UNIX and Windows NT, to a client-server and WEB based solution.

The solution used the Co*Star tool kit to enhance existing legacy source code without modifying the long-standing business rules, and provided completely new presentation layers to the client's application. The final solution allowed:
  • existing legacy terminals to work
  • provided a brand-new client-server front-end utilizing the same legacy code-base
  • provided a WEB enabled front-end utilizing the same legacy code-base
  • integration with Citrix MetaFrame and Windows Terminal Services utilizing the same legacy code-base

The final result allowed Penta to offer a newly designed and fully functional software suite with a powerful graphical presentation layer coupled with Penta's functionally rich legacy application. www.teampenta.com
