Overview
Blue Ivy Solutions had a specific need to deliver a fully functional GUI to their existing college administration suite of software packages and protect the existing functionality and high productivity provided by their legacy software. Clearview Software's Co*STAR integration suite enabled Blue Ivy the ability to use current interface technologies to deliver their application. Utilizing Co*STAR Blue Ivy created a GUI delivery with Clearview's guidance and experience that protected the existing navigability and work flow of the old system, and added enhanced features which stream lined and increased the power and flexibility of their product suite. By protecting the existing heads down data entry environment in their interface they reduced the need for additional training for their customers. Once Co*STAR was integrated as the presentation layer delivery vehicle significant Windows and browser technologies became logical extensions to an already robust and mature suite of software applications.


Additionally by selecting the Clearview Platform Blue Ivy is able to develop their existing modules in their original language, so as not to destabilize their 15 years of logic within the code and develop new applications independent of that legacy technology seamlessly embedded within the Co*STAR environment.


The solution used the Co*STAR tool kit to enhance existing legacy source code without modifying the long-standing business rules, and provided completely new presentation layers to the client's application. The final solution allowed:

  • provided a brand-new client-server front-end utilizing the same legacy code-base
  • provided a WEB enabled front-end utilizing the same legacy code-base
  • integration with office products, such as, MSWord, Access, Excel, Crystal Reports, and MSOutlook (e-mail)
  • allowed seamless coexistence of new non-legacy environment product development to take place with other SQL, JAVA, and Client/Server tools
  • allowed integration with PALM Pilot technology
  • allowed integration with Smart Card technology
  • integration with Citrix MetaFrame and Windows Terminal Services utilizing the same legacy code-base
The final result allowed Blue Ivy Solutions to be liberated from the restrictions of its legacy development environment and allow additional options for new software development.
